For the residents of Ithaca,the festival of the Assumption of Virgin Mary is a great
event.Thus,every 15 th of August a big feast is organized and take place in the square of the
village in the region of Limnes.With a live orchestra playing traditional music from the
islands,delicacies, plenty of wine and dancing this festival creates a vivid experience for both
locals and tourists.

It is worth mentioning that Platreithias means “wide kennel”, aka torrent. A name that
refers to a geographical designation of the Homeric kennel. At the border of Platreithia –
Exogi is the archeological site of Agios Athanasios or Homer School, where archaeologists
place the palace of Odysseus, the Homeric hero and king of Ithaca.
