In the capital of the island, Megalo Chorio, which is a traditional settlement full of stone-built houses and picturesque alleys, on August 23 the festival of Panagia Kamariani takes place. The church, named after the area of ​​Kamari where it is built, was renovated in 1996 and overlooks the beach of Agios Antonios. The festival, on the nine days of Panagia, takes place under the castle of the Knights, in the square of Megalo Chorio. Every year, a big party is set up with local musicians taking on the traditional island songs, triggering the dance around the tree in the middle of the square. Local dishes are served at the tables and the fun lasts until the morning.
