The biggest and most famous among festivals in Ikaria is undoubtedly that of Lagada, taking place every year on the 14th or the 15th of August. Lagada has been known as the historical seat of the Municipality of Raches, while the community’s location is traditional and the area is chatacterised as “landscape of special natural beauty”. At the time of the pirates, the fertile valley hosted the Ikariotes (people of Ikaria) who moved inland to protect themselves and is now a reference point for those who want to live the ultimate festival experience.
