In distant Karpathos and specifically in Olympus on the 15th of August you think that you are going through a scene from a movie of the time, that you are among actors or that you have entered a time machine that has sent you to the island a few years back. Women walk next to you wearing the, admittedly impressive, traditional costume of Karpathos. Their colors are reminiscent of Peruvian women’s clothing (association!) But are even more numerous and intense. At the same time they are decorated with many festoons (rows of gold-plated coins as jewelry). Here and there you hear unfamiliar words, their localism, and you are likely to find yourself in the following dilemma: “should I sit around fooling them or not stop taking pictures?” Balance somewhere in between and when the party starts, leave it at that. Tip: You may need a cardigan.
