The feast of “Kaikokakavia”

August 21 @ 8:00 pm - 11:30 pm | Free

From the name of the festival alone we understand that this is an evening full of local delicacy! The Feast of Kaikokakavia in Folegandros takes place every year in the port of Karavostasi and is a gastronomic pleasure. The port is designed to accommodate the crowds that attend to enjoy both the local delicacies and the big Cycladic feast that follows. The authentic Kakavia fish soup is prepared according to the recipe of the island’s fishermen, when they prepare it in their boats. Hence the name Kaikokakavia. The delicious broth is offered separately, as required by the traditional serving of the genuine fishery cockatoo of Folegandros. Wine and raki accompany the dinner which, apart from the kaikokakavia, includes the famous traditional pies of the island. Such as “Sourotenia” or “Kalasouna” or “Kremmydenia” pie with Folegandros cheeses (with xinomyzithra and onions) and “watermelon” or “adiagourenia” (with watermelon kernel, flour, honey, sesame). Of course, there is no lack of sweets, pastels, but also the “buns” (round unsweetened buns with anise and sesame) with cheese.
