Psimeni Raki Festival

The celebration of Psimeni Raki is held every year on July 26 in the picturesque port of Katapola in Amorgos and is very popular among festivals in the island since simeni raki is their traditional drink.

Visitors get to learn from the locals how raki is prepared and cooked. In addition to that, simple raki, made according to an ancient recipe, with Amorgian Pastel with sesame, honey and a lemon leaf. Of course, other tasteful local delicacies are not to be missed from the celebration.

Locals and tourists gather around 18.30 in the church and around 21.00, the big celebration begins. Dancers dressed in traditional costumes arrive from the village of Xylokeratidi in boats while their reception in Katapola is usually accompanied by fireworks and live music. This is how the first dances begin and the whole festival lasts until the next morning.
