The big festival of the Cross on September 13 (one day before the official holiday) attracts people from Athens, the Small Cyclades and the surrounding islands. The locals wear their goodies for the evening service, the tourists gather on the steps around the church, while the campers from the beaches leave their backpacks and tents for a while and prepare to enter the dance.

The faithful festival-goers come to Donoussa from all the surrounding islands in September, since the festivities (and especially the festival of the Cross) last until the early morning hours. Arriving at the port, nothing indicates that autumn is approaching. The island shines in all its summer grandeur, the waters are crystal clear and calm and visitors quietly enjoy its wild beauty.
