Feast of Karavolas

August 20 @ 8:00 pm - 11:30 pm

The Feast of Karavolas (folk festival), takes place in the most mountainous and traditional village of Paros, Lefkes. The folk festival takes place every year, on the first Saturday, after the 15th of August.

It is one of the biggest events that takes place in Lefkes and in Paros in general, for about twenty-five years. The organization is undertaken every year by the cultural Association M.E.E.A.S. “WHITE YRIA”.

Surely there are many people who do not know what a ship is. However, the word ship is a Parian expression used to describe the big snail. The celebration is an opportunity for the people of Lefkada to celebrate their nutritional love for the boats (this is how the boats got their nickname) and takes place in a huge landscaped area next to the white mansion of the Whites and under the pine forest.

There is the traditional food carols skordalia with boiled potatoes, wonderful Parian cheeses, chickpeas in the oven and of course plenty of local wine.

The preparation of the celebration starts a week earlier with almost all the villagers and especially the young children as volunteers. It becomes the biggest party of the village and the fun, the fun and the dance last until the morning hours, since in the evening they are accompanied by island songs by Parian organ players. If you are in Paros at that time, it is definitely worth visiting the village of Lefki and the festival of sailing.
